Woman Turns Boeing Plane Into Fully Functional Home

Long before alternative housing became trendy, Jo Ann Ussery transformed a Boeing 727 into a luxurious home.

After losing her Mississippi house in 1993, Ussery, a widow with two kids, needed an affordable home. Her air traffic controller brother-in-law suggested a decommissioned Boeing 727, which she bought for just $2,000.

Nicknamed “Little Trump,” she spent $30,000 renovating it, securing the 138-ft plane over a lake. Inside, she created a three-bedroom home with a kitchen, living room, laundry, and even a cockpit-turned-bathroom with a soaking tub.

She lived in her unique home from 1995 to 1999 before planning to open it as a museum. Unfortunately, during transport, the plane fell and was destroyed—but its incredible story lives on.
