While expecting their second child in 2002, Missy faced a devastating miscarriage at eight to ten weeks of pregnancy, just as they started sharing their joy. The miscarriage was due to a tubal pregnancy, where the embryo implants in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus.

Missy described the emotional pain of having to remove what could have been their child. However, their sorrow turned to joy when Missy became pregnant again, this time with Mia, their daughter who had a cleft lip and palate.
