Why Your Bathtub Could Be the Safest Spot for Your Bags

After checking into a hotel one night, I casually read reviews and instantly panicked when I saw one word: bedbugs. Suddenly I couldn’t stop imagining them crawling into my suitcase and coming home with me. That’s when I learned a surprisingly effective tip — put your luggage in the bathtub.

Bedbugs hide in mattresses, headboards, and curtains, and they’re attracted to fabric, which makes suitcases an easy target. But they avoid smooth, cold surfaces, so a bathtub becomes a temporary “safe zone” while you inspect the room. Even in hotels without bugs, the bathtub protects your bags from dirty carpets, spilled drinks, or germs.

Now my routine is simple: luggage in the tub, inspect the room, then decide whether to keep it there or move it to a rack. It’s an easy habit that brings instant peace of mind.
