Twin toddlers drown after grandmother with Alzheimer’s leaves door open

Twin toddlers Locklyn and Loreli tragically drowned after slipping out of their Oklahoma City home and into the family’s backyard pool. The 18-month-old siblings reportedly exited through a door that had been left open, possibly by their great-grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

Their mother, Jenny Callazzo, a stay-at-home mom of six who also runs a boutique, found the twins unconscious in the murky pool. Despite emergency efforts, both children were pronounced dead hours later.

Aerial footage of the home showed a dark green, algae-filled pool. Just days before the tragedy, Callazzo had posted a photo of the twins playing outside with the caption, “just want to play outside.”

Callazzo lives in the home with her husband and elderly grandmother. Neighbors recalled the heartbreaking sight of the distraught mother in the back of an EMS vehicle as responders worked to save her children.

Authorities are investigating the incident but have ruled out foul play, according to the Daily Mail. A GoFundMe page has been launched to assist the family with expenses, expressing gratitude for community support.

Experts warn that pools pose serious risks for toddlers. Laura Gamino, injury prevention coordinator at OU Health, emphasized how silent and sudden drowning can be. “Toddlers don’t have the skills to help themselves out of water,” she said.

Gamino recommends parents install 4-foot-high fences with locks out of children’s reach to prevent similar tragedies. “Drowning is silent,” she stressed. “That’s one of the scariest parts.”
