The tiny hole in your lock has a hidden purpose

I’ve always used padlocks for securing my belongings, but I never really questioned the small hole near the keyhole until my daughter pointed it out. Curious, I did some research and discovered that this tiny hole has a very important function.

The hole serves as a drainage system for the lock. When exposed to weather conditions like rain or humidity, water can seep inside, leading to rust and malfunctioning locks. The hole allows water to escape, preventing corrosion and ensuring the lock remains functional.

Additionally, the hole provides a convenient access point for maintenance. It’s the perfect spot to apply oil or lubricant, which reduces friction and prevents wear. This small feature helps keep the lock in good condition for longer.

Now, I always check for a drainage hole when purchasing a new lock and use it for maintenance when needed. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference in longevity.
