The Mom Who Stabbed Her Baby

Rachel Tunstill, 32, convicted of murdering her newborn daughter Mia Kelly in 2017, was found dead in HMP Styal, Cheshire. Tunstill, who stabbed Mia with scissors and disposed of her body in a bin, was initially convicted of murder. Her sentence was later changed to infanticide but reinstated after a retrial.

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is investigating her death. During her trials, it was revealed that Tunstill, a psychology graduate with autism, believed she was miscarrying. Disturbing internet searches and references to infamous killers surfaced during the case. The judge described the act as a brutal attack on a vulnerable baby. The incident underscores the importance of mental health support and preventative measures to avert such tragedies.
