Reasons to Wash New Clothes Before Wearing

Washing new clothes before wearing them is often recommended for health, comfort, and hygiene. New garments can contain chemicals like formaldehyde, fabric softeners, and dyes, which can irritate the skin. Additionally, clothes may carry germs, bacteria, and dirt from production and handling. Washing removes these residues and can also improve the feel of fabrics, soften stiff materials, and prevent color transfer from new clothes, especially dark or vibrant fabrics.

However, there are times when skipping the wash may be okay. For example, if the garment is urgently needed for an event or made from delicate materials that shouldn’t be washed frequently, you can wear it without washing. Eco-conscious consumers might also skip washing to conserve resources. In some cultures, washing new clothes is a tradition for cleanliness or good luck, highlighting the diverse practices surrounding this issue.
