In the wake of the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) criticized gun laws and Republican resistance to reform.
Speaking to reporters, she stressed the need for action over rhetoric, emphasizing that Americans expect lawmakers to address gun violence. AOC pointed to ongoing deaths from firearms and highlighted congressional inaction as a central issue contributing to tragedies like Kirk’s assassination.
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a well-known conservative activist, was shot at approximately 12:20 p.m. during a student-hosted event at Utah Valley University. According to university official Ellen Treanor, the shooter fired from a building roughly 200 yards away. Kirk was quickly evacuated by his security team, but the attack proved fatal. The campus was closed for the day, and while initial suspects were taken into custody, all were later released.
