Harold’s pride in his son Jake’s basketball victory quickly turned to dismay when Jake was rude to an elderly cleaning lady at a restaurant. To teach him a lesson about respect, Harold devised a plan.
In the restaurant, Jake rudely demanded, “Hey, old lady! This table is filthy. Come and clean it immediately.” The elderly woman, struggling with a mop and walking stick, was taken aback. Jake further disrespected her by throwing trash on the floor, saying, “Pick it up!” Harold, mortified, called the manager and announced, “My son will work here for the next week, and his salary will go to this lady.”
Over the next week, Jake worked at the restaurant, initially complaining but gradually learning the value of hard work and respect. By the end, he admitted, “I still hate the work, but it’s satisfying to see everything looking clean when I’m done.”
On Jake’s last day, he apologized to the cleaning lady, Mrs. Roberts, and handed her a stack of cash raised by his friends, saying, “I hope it helps.” Mrs. Roberts burst into tears, and Harold felt an overwhelming pride in his son’s transformation.
