Judge Issues Restraining Order Against Texas Nonprofit For Helping AWOL Dems

Judge Blocks Beto O’Rourke’s Fundraising Over Texas Democrats Case. A Texas judge issued a temporary restraining order against Beto O’Rourke and his nonprofit, Powered by People, ruling they unlawfully raised funds to support Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to block GOP redistricting efforts.

Judge Megan Fahey said the group’s fundraising violated state law, covering personal expenses like travel and lodging. The ruling, requested by Attorney General Ken Paxton, bars further fundraising or financial support to the lawmakers.

O’Rourke called the move a political attack aimed at silencing opposition, while Paxton celebrated the ruling on social media, claiming victory against “Beto Bribes.” O’Rourke has filed a countersuit, calling Paxton’s actions a “fishing expedition.”
