When driving through small towns or old neighborhoods, you may have noticed something unusual — a large star mounted on the front of a house. At first glance, it may look like simple decoration, but these stars actually have a much deeper meaningthan most people realize.
Known as “barn stars” or “Amish stars,” these symbols have been around for centuries, and their origins go back much further than you might expect.
The History Behind the Star
The tradition began in the early 1700swith German settlers, often referred to as the Pennsylvania Dutch. They would paint or hang stars on barns and homes as a symbol of protection and good fortune.
