What Is a Stroke?
A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is disrupted, damaging brain cells and affecting body functions—often causing weakness on one side, slurred speech, or vision problems.
Signs of a Stroke (F.A.S.T.):
-
Face drooping
-
Arm weakness
-
Slurred speech
-
Time to call emergency services immediately
First Aid Steps:
-
Call for help right away
-
Keep the person calm and seated or lying down
-
Don’t give food, drink, or medication
-
Monitor breathing and responsiveness
-
If unconscious, place in recovery position
-
Note the time symptoms began
Don’t: let them sleep, drive them yourself, or delay care.
Remember: Time is brain.
