Gene Hackman’s Death: Pathologist Shares One Possible Explanation After Autopsy

The sudden deaths of Hollywood legend Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, have left many unanswered questions. The couple, along with one of their dogs, were found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home on February 26, 2025. Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 65, had lived privately in their secluded home for years. Authorities have ruled out foul play but have not confirmed the cause of death.

A forensic pathologist suggested Hackman may have died from cardiac arrest, supported by the fact that his pacemaker stopped functioning on February 17. Arakawa, found in the bathroom, might have died after attempting to assist Hackman, possibly slipping and striking her head. There were also signs of mummification, indicating that the couple had been dead for several days before being discovered.

Initially, carbon monoxide poisoning was suspected, but toxicology tests ruled it out. Investigators found no signs of external injury or struggle, but a deceased German Shepherd was found in a closet, possibly due to dehydration after being confined for several days.

Hackman’s death marks the end of a significant era in Hollywood. Fans have flooded social media with tributes, mourning the loss of the two-time Academy Award winner and reflecting on his remarkable career. However, the mystery surrounding the circumstances of their deaths continues to generate speculation.
