In 2001, volunteer firefighter Patrick Hardison was severely injured in a house fire while trying to rescue a woman. He suffered third-degree burns to his face, scalp, and upper torso, losing his ears, lips, and most of his eyelids. After enduring 71 surgeries, he struggled with his appearance and constant public rejection. In 2015, Hardison underwent a groundbreaking face transplant, with a 50/50 chance of survival. The 26-hour surgery, involving over 100 medical professionals, gave him a new face, including eyelids, ears, and facial tissue. Today, Hardison lives a fuller life, sharing his journey of resilience and hope, despite ongoing medication to prevent rejection.
