United States President Donald Trump sparked controversy with remarks about autism during Charlie Kirk’s funeral on Sunday, 21 September.
The service was held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, to honor the 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder, who was fatally shot in the neck on 10 September. Authorities have identified the suspected shooter as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.
During his eulogy, Trump praised Kirk as someone who, in his words, “helped unite MAGA,” and used the moment to share a new slogan. Addressing mourners, the 79-year-old Republican president said: “You know what ‘MAHA’ is? That’s right, Make America Healthy Again.” His comments immediately drew backlash online, with critics questioning the timing and appropriateness of the announcement.
