Confronting My Daughter’s Absent Father at Her School

My heart sank when I saw him reach out to brush my daughter’s hair. Alarm bells went off in my head, and I bolted from the car, yelling, “Don’t touch her!” As I got closer, my breath caught—I saw that it was him, my ex-boyfriend, the man who had disappeared when I told him I was pregnant.

He mumbled something about wanting to “make things right,” but I was furious. I told him he had no place in her life after abandoning us. My daughter clung to me as I turned my back on him and left.

Years of pain and anger surged inside me. He had abandoned us and missed every important moment in our lives. I wasn’t about to let him waltz back in. He had made his choice.
