Can Animals Sense Earthquakes Before They Happen?
Before earthquakes strike, animals often display strange behaviors: dogs panic and run, cats flee, birds fly erratically, and fish may even leap from water. A photo from Bangkok showed pigeons flying chaotically just before a 7.7-magnitude quake shook a high-rise building.
While these signs are compelling, science has yet to confirm that animals can predict earthquakes. The lack of controlled studies and data has made it difficult to prove the connection.
With modern tools like vibration sensors and 24/7 field cameras, researchers now have a chance to investigate this phenomenon more deeply. Understanding animal behavior could one day help provide early warnings for natural disasters.
