After Christopher Reeve Became Paralyzed, He Wanted to End His Life, but 8 Words from His Wife Saved Him

Christopher Reeve, famed for his role as Superman, faced a life-changing accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed. Struggling with despair, he once asked his wife, Dana, if she would let him go. In response, she said, “You’re still you, and I love you.” This pivotal moment renewed his resolve to live.

Christopher and Dana married in 1992 and welcomed their son, William, that same year. Despite his injury, Christopher remained optimistic, choosing to focus on spinal cord injury research and advocacy. He compared advancements in the field to the fight against AIDS, believing breakthroughs were possible.

Reflecting on his life post-accident, Christopher admitted the daily challenge of waking up paralyzed, yet his dreams were filled with memories of his active life. He continued advocating for disabled people through his foundation, allocating resources for improving their quality of life.

Christopher passed away in 2004, followed by Dana two years later after her battle with lung cancer. Their legacy of perseverance and advocacy continues to inspire many.
