Exercise and a healthy diet are essential for overall well-being, but did you know that your feet can reveal signs of potential health problems? Pharmacist Noel Wicks explains that foot health, particularly toenails, can indicate serious issues. Blocked blood vessels in the feet can cause pain, swelling, coldness, or numbness, which may be early signs of heart disease. Thickened or brittle toenails could also point to heart disease. Additionally, symptoms of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) such as leg pain, sores that won’t heal, and dry or cracked skin should not be ignored. Fungal infections, like athlete’s foot, could be linked to diabetes or heart conditions. Wicks recommends paying attention to changes in your feet, including symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, or unusual fatigue, which may signal more serious health concerns.
