About 10 years ago, while working as a waiter, I had an encounter with an elderly man who was about to leave after seeing the price of the set lunch. Feeling sorry for him, I decided to feed him and paid for his meal myself. The manager scolded me, fearing it would set a precedent, but I couldn’t take it back. Later that evening, an ordinary-looking man left me a generous tip, enough to cover my rent and debt. At the time, I desperately needed money, and the tip was a huge blessing, making me realize how acts of kindness can come back when least expected.
