Arielle Valdes, a 21-year-old from North Fort Myers, was found dead on September 2, 2024, five days after disappearing while out for a run. Her family and friends faced their worst fears when her remains were discovered along the Caloosahatchee River. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, which had launched a comprehensive search involving marine vessels, aviation units, drones, K9 teams, and the Forensics Division, eventually located her. Despite extensive efforts, including using the ANDE rapid DNA device, there is no initial evidence of foul play. The Major Crimes Unit is working with the District 21 Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation continues.
Valdes left her home on August 28, 2024, around 6:30 p.m. for a run and was last seen on DOT footage heading southbound on US 41. Her family, deeply grieving, has thanked the community for their support. Isabella Hergert, her sister, has requested privacy and is contemplating how to use the funds raised for a reward, now intended for Valdes’s care.
