Senate Confirms Alabama Solicitor General Edmund LaCour As Federal Judge

The U.S. Senate confirmed Alabama Solicitor General Edmund “Eddie” LaCour Jr. to serve as a federal judge for the Northern District of Alabama by a 51-47 vote, filling the vacancy left by retiring Chief Judge L. Scott Coogler.

His confirmation caps a series of judicial wins for Alabama’s Senate delegation following the recent approvals of Bill Lewis and Hal Mooty. LaCour has served as state Solicitor General since 2019, leading high-profile appellate cases including Allen v. Milligan.

His nomination to the federal bench was first blocked in 2020 by then-Sen. Doug Jones, but this time proceeded smoothly with GOP senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville endorsing his record of more than 100 briefs and three Supreme Court arguments.
