A Melbourne family’s sunny day at Carrum Beach turned unsettling after they spotted a chilling detail in one of their photos. The picture showed a father and his young daughter smiling and waving at the camera — but behind them, something dark seemed to be emerging from the water.
Later at home, the family realized the shape resembled a shark fin. Their photo went viral after being shared online, sparking debate about whether it was truly a shark or just a trick of the waves.
Coincidentally, the local SES Chelsea rescue unit confirmed a shark sighting in the same area that very day, between Bonbeach and Chelsea. The eerie discovery came only days after fishermen near Aldinga Beach, south of Adelaide, captured footage of a massive 13-foot great white shark.
Whether the Carrum Beach image shows a real shark or an illusion remains unknown — but it’s a haunting reminder of the unseen dangers beneath Australia’s beautiful coastal waters.
