If someone has a stroke, here’s what you should do

What Is a Stroke?
A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is disrupted, damaging brain cells and affecting body functions—often causing weakness on one side, slurred speech, or vision problems.

Signs of a Stroke (F.A.S.T.):

  • Face drooping

  • Arm weakness

  • Slurred speech

  • Time to call emergency services immediately

First Aid Steps:

  • Call for help right away

  • Keep the person calm and seated or lying down

  • Don’t give food, drink, or medication

  • Monitor breathing and responsiveness

  • If unconscious, place in recovery position

  • Note the time symptoms began

Don’t: let them sleep, drive them yourself, or delay care.
Remember: Time is brain.
