Torrential rains unleashed sudden, powerful flash floods along the Guadalupe River in Texas on Friday, killing at least 24 people as rescue teams urgently scrambled to save dozens of victims trapped by the rapidly rising water or reported missing in the large-scale disaster, local officials said.
Among the missing were approximately 23 to 25 individuals listed as unaccounted for at an all-girls Christian summer camp, which is located directly on the vulnerable banks of the rain-engorged Guadalupe River, authorities confirmed during a press briefing.
