Authorities in Indonesia are on high alert after Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted Tuesday, sending a thick ash cloud 10,000 meters into the air. Residents and tourists on Flores Island are urged to stay away.
The eruption occurred around 5:35 p.m. local time, with the volcano emitting dense grey clouds, according to the Geology Agency. Officials recorded 50 eruptions in two hours, far above the usual 8–10.
Heavy rainfall could trigger lava flows, raising the alert to the highest level. No injuries or damage have been reported, and it’s unclear if flights are affected.
