Why Do Hotels Use 2:00 PM Check-In and 12:00 PM Check-Out?
Most hotels worldwide follow a standard check-in time of 2:00 PM and a check-out time before 12:00 PM. Even though this isn’t a full 24-hour stay, it’s considered a “night” and is used to calculate the room rate.
Why This Time Frame?
-
Guest Convenience: The period covers overnight rest, with midnight as the central point.
-
Operational Efficiency: Early check-ins (e.g., 5:00 AM) would be hard to manage or rebook after odd-hour check-outs.
-
Standardization: Keeps things consistent across all types of hotels, from budget to luxury.
What Happens at Check-Out?
Staff will:
-
Inspect the room for damage or missing items
-
Check if any chargeable items were used
-
Finalize payments and refund deposits if needed
Why the 2-Hour Gap?
From 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, hotel staff clean and reset the room. Tasks include:
-
Vacuuming, changing linens, wiping surfaces
-
Deep-cleaning the bathroom
-
Checking appliances like TVs and air conditioners
