Starting today you should start wrapping your key in aluminum foil.

If you don’t take precautions, your car could be stolen—without the thief even needing your keys. Modern car keys constantly emit signals, and experts warn that hackers can clone them using inexpensive tools.

How to protect your car?
Wrap your keys in aluminum foil or use a Faraday bag—both block signal transmission.

Cybersecurity expert Moshe Shlisel explains it like this: car keys and vehicles communicate via electromagnetic waves, like a song that unlocks the car when played. If someone knows the “song,” they can open your car.

Shlisel, a former Israeli Air Force developer, says aluminum foil creates a shield that blocks these waves. He warns that car thefts using this method are increasing, as tools and tutorials are easily found online.

Automakers are aware and working on stronger security, but for now, simple steps like foil or Faraday bags can help keep your car safe.
