High school track athlete fatally stabbed and ‘dies in twin’s arms’ in horrific incident at championship meet

Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old track athlete from Frisco ISD, tragically died after being stabbed during a championship event on April 2, 2025. According to his father, Jeff Metcalf, an argument over seating between Austin and another student led to the stabbing.

Despite his twin brother’s attempts to stop the bleeding, Austin succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The suspect, a 16-year-old student, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Police confirmed that lifesaving efforts were made, but Austin could not be saved.
