The Cause of Alzheimer’s Could Be Coming From Inside Your Mouth, Study Claims

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological condition marked by memory loss and confusion, caused by plaques and tangles in the brain. Recent research suggests a link between Alzheimer’s and oral health, particularly gum disease. The bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis, which causes gum disease, has been found in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients, possibly contributing to brain inflammation and cognitive decline. Studies indicate that chronic exposure to this bacteria may increase the risk of Alzheimer’s. While more research is needed, maintaining good oral hygiene could play a role in preventing Alzheimer’s, alongside other health measures like exercise, mental stimulation, and a balanced diet.
