Speaker Johnson Calls For ‘Censure’ Of Democrat Who Disrupted Trump Speech

During President Donald Trump’s recent address to a joint session of Congress, Representative Al Green (D-TX) interrupted the speech by standing and shouting objections regarding proposed Medicaid cuts. Despite warnings from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to maintain decorum, Green continued his protest and was subsequently escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant at Arms.

In response to this disruption, Speaker Johnson criticized Green’s actions as “shameful” and indicated that House Republicans are preparing to introduce a resolution to censure the congressman. Johnson emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated on the House floor.

The censure resolution is expected to be filed soon and will require a majority vote in the House, where Republicans currently hold a narrow margin. If passed, Green would become the fifth House member to be censured since 2010.

Despite facing potential disciplinary action, Green remained unrepentant, stating that it was “worth it to let people know that there are some people who are going to stand up” to President Trump.
