Journalist Adan Manzano, 27, was found unresponsive in his New Orleans hotel room while covering the Super Bowl for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports. Louisiana police arrested Danette Colbert, a woman with a history of drugging and robbing men, after hotel footage showed her entering his room. His credit card was later used in multiple transactions.
Authorities have not confirmed his cause of death, as further tests are pending. Manzano, a well-respected sports journalist, was known for his sideline reporting on the Kansas City Chiefs’ Spanish-language broadcasts and play-by-play commentary for the KC Current. His colleagues and Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas paid tribute, calling him a rising star passionate about his work.
Manzano was devoted to making sports more accessible to Spanish-speaking fans, emphasizing the importance of language in connecting audiences to the game. He was thrilled to cover the Super Bowl and looked forward to returning in 2025.
Tragically, his young daughter, Eleanor, has now lost both parents. Her mother, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd Manzano-Aguilar, died in a car crash in April 2024. Despite his passing, Manzano’s contributions to sports journalism and his community will not be forgotten.
